We’ve all heard the horror stories of large companies that have fallen victim to hackers breaking into their vast reserves of data and stealing information. But what many small businesses don’t realize is that hackers are realizing the ease with which they can do the same thing to small and medium sized businesses. What is even more disconcerting is the fact that many of these businesses never realize they have been compromised.

When looking at the ever-so exciting world of non-cash payment options, you basically have two widespread options nowadays: paper and plastic. Should Capital Gains Be Taxed Differently?

There are multiple reasons that capital gains are treated differently than income. Also, with an increasing national debt, this tax is often volleyed around as a cure for everything from low revenue to wealth inequality. What effect does an increased or decreased capital gains tax have on investment and the economy as a whole?

Putting the “One Click” back into “One Click” Accounting Software

Nov14th

For small business owners, time is one asset that there can never be enough of. Sometimes, often in fact, these also eat into the evening and the weekend. This is a fact that employed friends rarely realize when they envy the ‘freedom’ that your self-employed status suggests! One area for all of us that can take up considerable amounts of our unpaid overtime is the accounting. While employing an accountant can help to make this task easier, simple accounting software can also help. One of the leading small business accounting software providers has just launched their 2013 issue and Intuit, the people behind QuickBooks, have shown that they truly understand the main concern of many small business owners – the streamlining of all and any administrative tasks.

Small Business Health Care Tax Credit, Do you Qualify?

The small business health care tax credit, part of the Affordable Care Act enacted in 2010, is specifically targeted to help small businesses and tax-exempt organizations provide health insurance for their employees. Small employers that pay at least half of the premiums for employee health insurance coverage under a qualifying arrangement may be eligible for this credit.

Tax Misperceptions – Small Business

Sep17th
2012
1 Comment Written by Bruce Mc

The old legal saying that “ignorance of the law is no excuse” is perhaps most often applied in tax settings and it is safe to assume that a tax auditor presenting an assessment of additional taxes, penalties, and interest will not look kindly on an “I didn’t know I was required to do that” claim. On the flip side, it is surprising how many small businesses actually overpay their taxes, neglecting to take deductions they’re legally entitled to that can help them lower their tax bill.
