I only have two more so I am hoping someone can send me more of these wonderful math “tricks”. What I am wanting are the truly interesting. Tricks to get your phone number, your birthday, a number you know will become no matter what or even a math trick that could lead ultimately to one reading your mind (next week). If you have some of these, please send them on, I promise if they work, they’ll get posted and you’ll get full credit (if you want it) for the trick/math problem.
Okay this week, 1089 is the answer:
1.) First, tell somebody to write a three digit number, and tell them not to show you or tell you what it is. Make sure you tell them the number cannot be the same backwards. Example: 132 (565, 969, or 222 will NOT work).
2.) Then, rip off a little piece of paper and write down the “magic number” – this number will be 1089.
3.) Next tell the person to find the difference of the number they wrote down and the reverse of their number by subtracting the smaller number from the larger number. Example: 231-132 = 99
4.) Now, have the person add the new number to the reverse of that number. If the new number has only two digits add a zero to the beginning. Example: 099 + 990 = 1089.
5.) 1089 will always be the end result, so you can amaze your friends with your mathematical mind reading when you can tell them what the finial number is without them having to tell you.
